Competition Info
This competition, seminar and trade show, internationally sanctioned by USA Roller Sports, and sponsored by US Inline Figure Skating, is the second time a U.S. competition is being held that will be strictly dedicated to inline free skating as well as other aspects of basic inline skating. It will be held April 23 - 25 with the competition events scheduled for Saturday, April 24 in the morning and overflow events on Sunday, April 25 in the morning. This competition has attracted interest from skaters in several countries.
Who
This competition is being sponsored by US Inline Figure Skating with the cooperation of USA Roller Sports, the U.S. Olympic representative for Roller Sports. The host rink is USA Skate Center in Romeoville, IL.
US Inline Figure Skating is an independent sports organization. In addition, the Skate Instructors Association and US Freestyle Skaters Association will also be participating.
Events
There are events from USA Roller Sports as well as selected events based on events from US Figure Skating and Ice Skating Institute along with new unique events designed by US Inline Figure Skating.
There will be additional events in Slalom/Freestyle based on World Slalom Skating Association rules. Slalom/Freestyle is relatively new to the U.S. and has seen tremendous growth around the world as a fun activity you can do almost anywhere and compete in. For all athletes it provides an excellent and fun activity to work on balance, footwork and flexibility.
Goals
The focus of the competition is to encourage beginning, intermediate and advanced skaters and we are striving to keep the costs quite low for this year. Skaters can compete in events that require a program as well as events that don't need a program to be developed ahead of time. There are even events for a family to enter together as a team. You can skate practically all the events without special inline skates, though some toe jumps might not be possible without toe stops, but everything else can be done. Some non-figure skating events can be entered on the day of the competition without a late fee.
Instructor Training and Certification
We are pleased to include Skate Instructors Assocation, an organization focused on teaching and certifying inline skating coaches. They will be holding Level 1 and Level 2 training and certification. Their program is based on the IISA training and certification program that is over 20 years old.
Party
The party is tentatively schedule for Ballydoyle's for Saturday night. This is an Irish Pub that has a restaurant, live Irish music and allows children in the restaurant area. All skaters, coaches, officials, parents and supporters are invited at 7 p.m. whether you were at the competition or not. Come and meet the competitors and have some fun.
Scheduling
Because this is the second time the competition is being held there may be some minor adjustments and clarifications to rules and the schedule that should not impact any programs being worked on. Because of last-minute and on-site registrations the schedule to the right is only tentative and the best we can provide at this time.
Watch the U.S. Open Inline Chicago 2010 website for any recent changes, updates and schedule adjustments. The following schedule represents the minimum and maximum schedule as of the end of March.
Seminar, Tradeshow, Sponsors and Volunteers
A Seminar is being held in conjunction with the event with discussion on various topics of interest to inline skaters and coaches. Seminar sessions might not be held during competition events to encourage viewing. Bring your skates.
